Ancient Textiles and SUPPORT Foundation Thai Silk Museum

The Ancient Textiles and SUPPORT Foundation Thai Silk Museum, that is located in a medium size residence which King Rama V had built for HRH Princess Oradai Dhep Kanya, is situated on Koh Kwang (Deer Island) north of Vimanmek Mansion.

Most of the textiles displayed were used by ladies of the court in the fifth reign. Some of these textiles were taken from Vimanmek Mansion, the rest were originally in the Grand Palace. These royal textiles were woven both in Thailand and abroad. Among them are mudmee silk with a special design called Pha Pum Mai (Pum silk) woven in Northeastern Thailand and Cambodia. There is also Pha Ratchawat, another type of silk which is woven with alternate colours of silk and which is originally from Suratthani Province in the South of Thailand.
